About Rebecca

"Art is my soul’s sanctuary—a place where I can explore, reflect and connect with the world in a way that words cannot. It grounds me in the present, heals what feels untethered and reminds me of the beauty of life." - Rebecca Lefebvre

Personal Statement

As a self-taught artist, my work is largely influenced by my shared experience with humans and my love of the natural world. From a young age, life’s subtle nuances and turbulent extremes captivated me. After three decades as a social worker and registered nurse, I turned to art as a means of healing and self-expression. Through this journey I discovered my passion for acrylics, texture, and a variety of surfaces.

Inspired by the nature’s inviting colors and fanciful creatures, I strive to create pieces that evoke calm and candor transcending the harsh angles of our world. My creations are easily recognizable because of the whimsical birds and ephemeral landscapes I frequently paint.

In addition to my fine art, I have self-published a series of nature-inspired mindfulness tools since 2014 that call upon “fauna, flora and fantastic beings” to help foster confidence, encourage self-healing and connect people with nature.

A champion of conscious, purposeful living, I work at home in my garden studio favoring a simple life; writing and painting to nurture my empathic heart and inspiring others to live a curious, creative life.

If you’d like to discuss my work, explore lessons or workshops, commission a piece, or learn more about my vision, please feel free to email me. I’d love to connect with you.

Artist Statement

Heavily influenced by rugged terrain, scenic shorelines, and the raw beauty of wild animals, my artwork captures the essence of nature’s untamed spirit while evoking tranquility. Through richly textured paintings created with my own unique design technique, 3-dimensional art installations, and whimsical bird portraits, I strive to juxtapose the harsh angles of the world with a sense of welcomed transcendence, inviting viewers into spaces of calm and contemplation. My bird portraits, known for their playful yet poignant qualities, highlight the unique personalities of these creatures, making them both memorable and enchanting. These works, like the rest of my art, are deeply informed by my experiences as a social worker and registered nurse, which shape my exploration of healing, resilience, and emotional depth. My pieces blend the beauty of the natural world with the intricate emotional landscapes of the human experience.

My Style
My artwork is deeply inspired by nature, blending organic textures, layered color and expressive movement. I love to create highly textural pieces that invite touch and evoke a sense of depth and wonder. Whether through bold, flowing strokes or intricate details, my work captures the energy and emotion of the natural world.

My Preferred Surfaces
The surface I paint on plays a significant role in how my work takes shape. I enjoy working on high-quality watercolor paper, cradled wood panels and heavyweight canvas, each offering unique textures that interact with my chosen mediums in different ways. Watercolor paper allows for delicate washes and intricate details, while wood panels and canvas provide a sturdy foundation for building rich, layered textures.

My Preferred Mediums
I primarily work with watercolor, acrylics and ink to experiment with depth and definition. Watercolor allows me to embrace fluidity and transparency, while acrylics offer a more tactile, layered approach. Ink, whether bold and graphic or soft and intricate, brings a sense of elegance and fosters mindfulness. I enjoy combining these mediums to create dynamic, multidimensional pieces that feel alive yet organic.

Why I Create Art
Art is my way of exploring, understanding, and connecting with the world around me. It’s a language beyond words, a space where I can express emotion, curiosity, and appreciation for the beauty in nature. My creative process is both intuitive and intentional—rooted in a love for texture, movement and storytelling. I create to inspire others to pause, to feel and to find their own sense of wonder. Whether through my paintings, workshops or installations, I hope to spark connection, joy, and a deeper appreciation for art as a means of self-discovery.
